Baseball-coach

Northfield

Inducted 2025

A baseball coach in the state for nearly five decades and the baseball coach and athletic director at Northfield High School for 38 years starting in 1975, Frank Pecora led the Marauders to 19 trips to the state baseball title game while winning 488 games.

His final high school victory was in the 2012 Division III title game at Centennial Field, his 15th state championship. During his career several of his Northfield players- one of the state’s smaller high schools- went on to play NCAA Division I baseball and at least two reached the affiliated minor leagues.

On the athletic director side, he became chair of the Vermont Principals Association (VPA) Baseball Committee, President, Vice President, Treasurer/Secretary of the Vermont State Athletic Directors Association (VSADA), and a member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association (NIAAA) Board of Directors.

After assisting Norwich University for three seasons, he became the Cadets head baseball coach in 2016 before retiring in 2024. He was named GNAC Coach of the Year in 2017 and his final team reached the GNAC championship.

The baseball field at Northfield’s Memorial Park was named Frank Pecora Field at Memorial Park in 2013. He is a member of the VPA Hall of Fame, and in 2014, he was the first Vermont coach in any sport to be named to the National Federation of State High Schools National High School Hall of Fame.

Pecora was instrumental in developing youth and amateur sports in Northfield for many years. He also coached many sports in the town along with VSHOF inductee, the late Ed Hockenbury. He remains a member of the VPA Baseball Committee and is a key volunteer with the Vermont Baseball Coaches Association.
